Day 1 - Wednesday

Taipei

Meeting at the international airport with the Ofakim representative and transfer to the hotel in Taipei, capital of Taiwan.

Taipei has a population of 3 million, most of whom are Han Chinese. The city has developed tremendously in the last few years and has become a busy metropolis with many skyscrapers lining the horizon, including the tallest skyscraper in the world: Taipei 101.

Upon landing, we will check in to the hotel and then go out for a walking tour with our guide.


 

Day 2 - Thursday

Taipei

This morning we will have a guided tour of the city and get to know it.

We will see the monument to Chiang Kai Shek, set up to commemorate the President who founded Taiwan.

We will go to the National Museum with the biggest collection in the world of Chinese articles brought here by Chiang Kai Shek and we will go to the beautiful Longshan Temple.

In the evening, those who wish to can go with the guide (by public transport) to the snake market.


 

Day 3 - Friday

Taipei

Free day to wander about the city. Those who wish to can join a (paid) excursion to Taroko National Park to see the amazing gorge carved out of high marble mountains created by the river that cut its way through them. We will see spectacular waterfalls and fantastic landscape.

In the evening, those who wish to can go with the guide (by public transport) to the night market.


 

Day 4 - Saturday

Taipei, Manila

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Manila, capital of the Philippines. The South East Asian country of the Philippines consists of a group of more than 7.100 islands, the largest and northernmost of which is Luzon (105.000 sq. km in size), home to the capital of the Republic of the Philippines, Manila.

Transfer to the hotel.

After freshening up, we will go out for a walk in the area of the hotel.


 

Day 5 - Sunday

Manila

After breakfast we will go for a comprehensive tour of Manila.

We will go to the walled city of Intramuros, the Spanish colonial city in the oldest district of Manila. There, we will see the ruins of Fort Santiago that is part of the city's structure.

We will also go to the American cemetery on the outskirts of the city, to Makati, the embassy area and the modern shopping center that is near Imelda Marcus' - once President of the Philippines - current residence, to St. Augustine Church and to Casa Manila.

We will cross the Pasig River to Quiapo where we will go to see Quiapo Church and see the Black Madonna. Worshipers claim that tears fall from the Madonna's eyes every day.

We will go on to the unique Chinese cemetery, where the rich Chinese are buried in mausoleums that have electricity, running water and even kitchens with all kinds of living requirements inside them.

We will continue touring the city and there will even be time left to do some shopping and to wander around on our own.


 

Day 6 - Monday

Manila, Pagsanjan

After breakfast, we will begin a full day excursion to the Pagsanjan River and its waterfalls. The river flows about 90 kilometers south west of Manila in the Province of Laguna. This is where the movie Apocalyse Now was filmed.

We will take speedboats onto the river and will be able to feel the pull of the water as we ride as far as possible upstream (sometimes they even carry us on their shoulders to bypass obstacles on the way...). You can be sure that the way back is much faster.

At the end of the ride, we will eat lunch and then make our way back to Manila.


 

Day 7 - Tuesday

Manila, Banaue

Today we pack our suitcases (and take only a hand bag with us) and drive towards Banaue in the Province of Ifugau.

We will drive past beautiful landscapes and the villages of northern Luzon and we will cross two provinces on our way with mountain ranges all around us throughout. We will see lush greenery everywhere.

We will arrive at Banaue in the early hours of the evening.


 

Day 8 - Wednesday

Banaue

A wonderful, enchanting day awaits us today. Cars that are unique to the Philippines - jeepneys - will take us to the rice terraces and we will cross the mountains until we reach the road that leads to Batad.

From there we will go into the village, called the 'amphitheater of the rice terraces', on foot. In Batad, we will go to a village school and hear about the local education system.

Dinner in the hotel.


 

Day 9 - Thursday

Banaue, Manila

Today we will make our way back to Manila via the Dalton Pass, named after American General Dalton who was killed there by sniper fire.

We will arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon.


 

Day 10 - Friday

Manila, Macau

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Macau, the gambling capital of Asia. Macau belonged to the Portugueuse until 1999 when it was returned to China. There are more than 20 casinos there and some say that Macao has taken over the title of 'the greatest gambling city in the world' from Las Vegas.

Transfer to the hotel.

On the way there, we will have a short panoramic tour to get an idea of what this unusual destination looks like.

In the evening, those who want to can try their luck at the gambling tables and the slot machines.


 

Day 11 - Saturday

Macau, Hong Kong

After making the most of our last hours to gamble a bit more and to simply enjoy ourselves, we will go to the hovercraft station for our short journey to Hong Kong.

Transfer to the hotel in the center of the city.

After freshening up, we will go out for a walk to get to know our surroundings a bit.


 

Day 12 - Sunday

Hong Kong

This morning, we will have a guided tour of this old/new canton of China, a sky-scraper city situated in a green, tropical setting on the shores of the busiest port in Asia.

We will visit Repulse Bay, one of Hong Kong's most famous beaches, and then go to the Aberdeen fisherman's village from which we will take a fascinating sampan trip to the typhoon shelter where local fishermen moor their fishing boats, and witness an exceptional and interesting way of living.

We will also go up to Victoria Peak for a spectacular view of the entire area.

We will still have time afterwards to do some shopping or to see some of the other sights the city has to offer.


 

Day 13 - Monday

Hong Kong

Free day that can be devoted to getting to know the areas of this city which is a seam between East and West.

We can do a tour of the Hong Kong islands, visit the wonderful Ocean Park, see the vast department stores and witness life in this bustling city.

Those who wish to can take a (paid) tour to the New Territories and take a look deep into the former British Colony, go to an unusual Daoist Temple, see vast bridges and the exact spot which was once the border with China, and visit a traditional Chinese village surrounded by walls that has preserved its unique character for generations.

In the evening, we will go out and mingle in the lively atmosphere of Hong Kong by night.


 

Day 14 - Tuesday

Hong Kong, Home

Morning free.

Transfer to the airport for the flight home at the end of an unusual, different, exciting tour of the Far East.
