Today we will go to see the jewel in the crown: the highlight that many consider to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Angkor Wat. This amazing archaeological site is impressive and overwhelming for its sheer size and for the power that it reflects, that of the ancient Cambodian kingdom. The king’s vast, powerful armies emerged from here to conquer and returned victorious and loaded with the booty they had plundered from their enemies. The vast riches they brought with them were used to fund the building of hundreds of Khmer style stone monuments and temples in quantities unseen even before by Western eyes until the site was discovered by French archaeologist Henri Mouhot in 1861.
Our tour there will take us along fascinating paths, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that leaves a lasting impression, and temples that ’disappeared’ in the jungle.
