Day 2 - Monday

Rabat, Meknes, Fez

This morning we will tour the capital of Morocco, permanent home to the King. We will see the King’s impressive palace, go the magnificent mausoleum where Mohammed V and Hassan II are buried, see the remains of the mosque that was destroyed in an 18th century earthquake and go to the Casbah.

We will then driv to Meknes, the Imperial capital at the time of Mulai Ismael at the end of the 16th century, and do a panoramic tour of the city including a visit to the ‘melach,’ the old Jewish quarter and a look at the old and new parts of the city.

We will then continue on to Fez, the Islamic religious and cultural capital of Morocco.

Transfer to the hotel.

Day 3 - Tuesday

Fez

Today we will go into the enormous wmedina’ with its labyrinth of streets and bustling, colorful markets after understanding a bit about it from a panoramic view of it from the hills.

We will see the palace, the many important religious buildings - mosques and madrassas - and the ‘melach,’ the Jewish quarter where there was once an important, influential Jewish community. One of the famous people to come out of that community was the Rambam.

Day 4 - Wednesday

Ifrane, Errashidia, Erfoud

Today we will cross the Middle and High Atlas Mountains southwards on our way to Ifrane, the beautiful town that sits at a height of 1650 meters in the High Atlas Mountains. There we will see houses with steeply slanting roves in order that the abundant snow that falls in this popular ski resort slide off easily.

We will continue to Errashidia at the bottom of the High Atlas Mountains and on to palm-filled Erfoud.

Day 5 - Thursday

Sahara, Toudra Canyon, Dades Valley, Ouarzazate

We will get up very early for a jeep ride (weather permitting) that will take us to see the sun rise over the sand dunes of Merzouga in the Sahara Desert.

From there, we will drive through palm-filled desert oases to the most famous canyon of southern Morocco: the spectacular Toudra Canyon.

We will continue from there along the Dades Valley with its palm trees and fruit orchards and wonderful landscape.

We will stop at Bulman, the rose-growing center to buy creams and rose water and then we will continue along the road known as the Casbah Route until we reach the main town of the area, Ouarzazate at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains.

There is a Jewish Quarter in Ouarzazate as well as many beautiful and unusually built casbahs.

Day 6 - Friday

Ait Ben Haddou, Marrakesh

Before we leave Ouarzazate, we will stop off at Tiffeltout, the Casbah that belonged to the powerful Glaoui family.

On our way to Marrakesh, we will stop at Ait Ben Haddou, which is considered to be the most impressive casbah in Morocco. The houses there are built into the rock and carefully decorated.

Upon arrival in Marrakesh, we will start to get to know this special town with our guide.

Day 7 - Saturday

Marrakesh

Marrakesh was founded 1000 years ago as the capital of the Almoravids and has since been considered the capital of southern Morocco.

We will tour this ‘red city’ and see the Menara and the Kuttubia, one of the more opulent mosques. Of course, we cannot miss out on Djama el Fna, the famous and unique square which is full of life and where there is always something going on. A visit there is an exciting experience without which a visit to Marrakesh is not complete.

In the evening we will go to Fantasia, a Berber folklore show from the Atlas mountains, and have a soft drink there.

Day 8 - Sunday

Urika Valley, Marrakesh

Today we will go outside Marrakesh into the hills to the picturesque Ourika Valley and its pastoral villages. There, we will go into a typical Berber home and see how the local people live.

In the afternoon, we will go back to Marrakesh and go to the ‘melach’ (Jewish quarter) and the El Bahia palace.

Day 9 - Monday

Ouzoud Waterfalls, Casablanca

We take our leave of Marrakesh today and head for an enjoyable day seeing some of the natural wonders of Morocco in the Middle Atlas Mountains.

We will go to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, the highest in Morocco, and continue on to Casablanca.

Day 10 - Tuesday

Casablanca

This morning we will have a guided tour of this big, modern city where the imprint of the French rule has left its mark.

We will go to the impressive Hassan II Mosque which they finished building in 1993. We will also go to Mohammed V Square, to the new city and the old one, to the ’Corniche,’ built by the French in 1930, that runs along the seafront, to the ’medina’ and to the colorful bazaar where we will find typical Moroccan arts and crafts.

Afternoon free to wander around the streets, markets and bazaars.
