Embark on an enthralling desert adventure. Exploring the south of Israel will take you
on an incredible journey through stunning landscapes, as you discover Israel's history,
archaeology, and geology, and encounter its wildlife and vegetation. This once-in-a-lifetime
adventure will enable you to experience "a little bit of everything", while giving you a larger
appreciation for Israel, its fascinating history, and its incredible natural beauty.

Israel Desert Adventure

  Day 1

Departure from Tel Aviv / Jerusalem / Dead Sea

Begin with a brief stop at Ein Gedi. The tour begins with the following route:
  • Nahal Hemar (a stream featuring a cave with archeological finds from Neolithic times)
  • Nahal Sdom (a stream)
  • Mt. Sodom observation point (including the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah)
Stop for rest and refreshments. Continue to the following sites:
  • Ein Yerakam (a desert spring, camel trail from the Nabatean era)
  • Makhtesh Katan (the Small Crater – unique geological erosional landform)
  • Makhtesh Gadol (the Large Crater, including the multicolored sands and petrified trees)
End the day with your stay at the Kibbutz Mashabei Sadeh Country Lodging (or similar) – dinner and overnight stay.

Israel Desert Adventure

  Day 2

Start the day off with breakfast. Your tour will begin at Ovdat, an ancient Nabataean city on the ancient incense route, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to the observation point at the Ramon Crater and visits to the following sites:
  • Nahal Ramon (one of two streams that drain the spectacular Makhtesh Ramon)
  • Mt. Gvanim (fossils) and Nahal Gvanim (a stream)
  • Ein Saharonim (a tiny spring found in the Ramon Crater, with lush vegetation and wildlife) + the Saharonim fort
  • Nahal Ardon (a stream with rare volcanic intrusions known as dikes)
Take a break for hospitality and light lunch at a Bedouin tent. Then visit Ben Gurion's memorial (the graves of David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, and his wife Paula, with breathtaking views of the Tzin Canyon and Ovdat Highland). Enjoy Ein Akev (desert spring and waterfall). Return to Central Israel.

Tour Information

  • Guaranteed departure for a minimum of 2 participants, and minimum 10 days’ advance booking.
  • The tour departs each Sunday.
  • Pick-up is available from most hotels in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and all Dead Sea hotels.
  • Pick-up and drop-off will be from/to the same hotel. Drop-off at a different location is available at an extra fee.
  • Available for children aged 12 and over. Families with children below the age of 12 have the option to book a private tour.
  • Due to limited space in the jeeps, one overnight bag is permitted per person. Other luggage can be stored in the hotel's luggage storage room.
  • Please bring the following: bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, comfortable walking shoes, and warm clothing (also in the summer, for cool desert nights).
  • Jeep desert tours include driving on off-road tracks and through bumpy terrain. They are therefore not recommended for pregnant women, and for people with back and/or neck problems.
  • The tour is guided in English only.

Included services in our tour rates:

  • 2 day guided tour in the desert in a 4x4 jeep (max. 7 passengers per jeep)
  • 1 night’s accommodation including dinner and breakfast
  • 1 light lunch in a Bedouin tent
