To extend your stay in Israel you must first be accepted to the current Taglit-Birthright Israel trip.

  1. I have relatives in Israel. Can I depart earlier than the group?
    Unfortunately, No. You will have to depart with your group, as a group, on the day they depart, from the airport they depart.

  2. What is the maximum number of days I can stay in Israel?
    Please see the terms and conditions for your specific carrier on the extension request page.

  3. Can I get an open return?
    Open returns are not allowed. You must have a confirmed return flight.

  4. Can I stop in Europe on the way back?
    I have a friend in Paris. No, stopovers are not allowed on this ticket. However, you can either a ) purchase a one-way ticket Tel Aviv/Europe/USA at your own expense. b) Purchase a round trip ticket at your own expense for travel Tel Aviv/Europe/Tel Aviv and extend your Taglit-Birthright Israel ticket accordingly by paying the fee.   5. How do I rent a cell phone to use during my trip in Israel?

  6. I live in Chicago, and my organization has group flights from New York. Can I get an add-on flight through Gil Travel?
    Add-ons are not allowed on the Taglit-Birthright Israel tickets. You will have to get to New York on a separate domestic ticket which you can buy on your own through the Internet or your local travel agent.

  7. I live in Miami, and my organization has group flights from New York. Why can’t I fly from Miami on EL Al?
    You will have to fly on your group flights only, from the gateway assigned for the trip organizer.

  8. What happens if I pay for the extension and later change my mind about going on the trip?
    You will forfeit your fee paid to Gil Travel.

  9. Do I need a passport and a Visa to visit Israel?
    Yes, a valid passport is required. US / Canada citizens do not need a visa for Israel. All other nationalities – please check with the Israel consulate.

  10. How long does it take after I pay the extension fee, to hear from Gil Travel?
    I have to book my domestic ticket soon. Once the fee is paid, we will process your request based on the choices you gave us. You will hear from us by e-mail once we get the flight confirmation. If you are purchasing domestic tickets, we recommend that you wait until you get your extension flight confirmation from Gil Travel via e-mail. Due to the heavy volume of requests, please allow 6 business days for your application to be processed.

  11. What is my group flight schedule?
    You need to contact your Trip Organizer to get this information.

  12. Once in Israel, what if I need to depart earlier than my confirmed extension date from Tel Aviv to USA / Canada?
    You will have to contact the local airline office in Israel to make the necessary changes.

  13. I paid for my extension and received a confirmation. However, I want to make another change. What do I have to do?
    E-mail the request directly to extensions@giltravel.com with your change request as well as your original order number and your authorization for the additional $150 fee.

  14. I will purchase my own ticket to Europe and fly to TEL AVIV and join my Taglit-Birthright Israel group. Can I use the return part of my Taglit-Birthright Israel ticket to get back to US / Canada?
    It is not possible to meet a group in Israel. The trip begins at the airport of departure and all participants must leave the US / Canada on their assigned group flight.

  15. How do I ensure my friend and I have the same flight on the return?
    He/She applied for the extension only yesterday. Please mention your friend’s name/organization and gateway city in the comments box. We will make every effort to put you both on the same flight.

  16. I am flying out of JFK with my group, however I would like to return to Miami as I live there. Is this possible? How much more do I pay?
    Unfortunately, all Taglit-Birthright Israel students must return to the same gateway city from which they departed. If you departed from New York, you can only return to New York.

  17. I am flying out of Miami or Los Angeles. Can I return to New York?
    No. You must return to same gateway city from which you departed. No exceptions!

  18. What happens if my domestic flight is delayed and I miss the group flight from New York?
    When booking domestic flights, please allow at least 4-hours connecting time between flights. If you miss the flight, your schedule airline will do their best to put you on the next available flight to Tel Aviv. However, please be aware EL AL and Israair do not fly on Friday night and you may have to stay over 24 hours for the next flight.

  19. How can I get an aisle seat and a special meal?
    Seats will be assigned at the time of check-in only. You can call the airline directly and request a vegetarian or diabetic meal etc. All you need to give them is your name, departure date and flight number.

  20. I am told my flight is going via New York on the return to Los Angeles. Can I stopover in New York for a few days?
    Unfortunately, stopovers are not allowed.

  21. Do I need a copy of my ticket or an itinerary to get a visa?
    Your organization can provide you with a flight confirmation itinerary.

Terms and Conditions for extending your stay in Israel

Please read all Terms and Conditions, then continue at the bottom of the page.

Students who wish to extend their stay and receive a confirmed return flight prior to departure can do so through Gil Travel for a fee. This includes Gil Travel processing and service fees for the extension and the airline's extension fees.

If you wish to change your flight after departure, you can contact your carrier directly once in Israel. However, return dates and desired flights are based on availability, and can not be guaranteed.

Gil travel representative in Israel can not accept any extensions.

Extension requests will be processed after your credit card has been charged a fee.

Confirmation of the return flight will be sent directly to the student via email. It is the students’ responsibility to notify their organization of the change.

If a particular date is unavailable we will do all possible to confirm the next available flight.

Airline tickets will not be sent to the student from Gil Travel. Your trip organizer will advise you of the procedures.

Domestic add-ons are not allowed. Students, who need to purchase separate domestic tickets to the departure gateway, may do so directly from the airline, the Internet or their local travel agent. If traveling on separate domestic ticket to your departure gateway, please allow at least 4 hours between the domestic and international flights. Due to security reasons, Gil Travel highly recommends that you do not interline your luggage. Please transfer your luggage from the domestic carrier to your international carrier terminal on your own. Failure to do so may result in not getting your luggage or you may miss your transatlantic flight.

Any additional changes to an air extension request that has already been made, will be subject to an additional charge of USD150.
