Itinerary- Russia: St. Petersburg & Moscow

Day 1

St. Petersburg

Arrive in St. Petersburg, Russia. The most European of Russian cities, St. Petersburg, nestled on the banks of the Neva River, is often referred to as the "Venice of the North." Meeting, arrival, and transfer by private car to your hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure in this glorious city.

Day 2

St. Petersburg

The most European of Russian cities, St. Petersburg, nestled on the banks of the Neva River, is often referred to as the "Venice of the North." In the morning, enjoy a panoramic city tour. You'll see some of the city's most famous sites, including: St. Isaac's Cathedral, one of the largest domed buildings in the world; the bronze statue of Peter the Great, founder of the city; the Admiralty building; and the extraordinary Winter Palace. (B)


Day 3

St. Petersburg

Morning visit to the magnificent Hermitage Museum in the lavishly decorated Winter Palace. One of the largest in the world, the museum boasts masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso and Matisse. As the collection is housed in the palace, you will also have the opportunity to explore the historic rooms where Russian royalty lived. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 4

St. Petersburg-Moscow

Today, enjoy an excursion to Catherine's Palace, the splendid country palace of the Czars; this royal palace is a magnificent blend of baroque, neo-classical and rococo, nestled in a beautiful park setting. After a tour of this fairy-tale estate, stop at Pavlovsk Palace with its extraordinary park filled with classical statues, built for the son of Catherine the Great. Evening transfer to the railway station to board the overnight train to Moscow. (First-class sleeper compartments are reserved.) (B)

Day 5

Moscow

Morning arrival at the train station in Moscow; meeting, assistance and transfer to your hotel. Your panoramic tour this afternoon with your private guide and driver gives you an overview of the most important sites in the city, including: the University of Moscow; the Bolshoi Theatre; Olympic Stadium; and the G.U.M. Department Store, one of the largest in the world. Continue to impressive Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral, with its vividly painted onion domes.


Day 6

Moscow

Morning tour to the 12th-century Kremlin and its imposing Cathedral Square; you'll see palaces, cathedrals and the infamous "Ivan the Terrible" Bell Tower. Highlight of the day will be a visit to the famous Armory Museum, with its vast collection of Imperial Russian treasures. Afternoon at leisure. (B)


Day 7

Moscow

Morning tour to the 12th-century Kremlin and its imposing Cathedral Square; you'll see palaces, cathedrals and the infamous "Ivan the Terrible" Bell Tower.
