This tour is considered to be of medium difficulty. There are short and long rides available on most days making it appropriate for any-one who has some to much biking experience.

Day 1 - Sunday
Carmel to Caesarea

Bike Tour, Bike Israel

We will leave Tel Aviv early in the morning by van and drive to the Horn of Carmel. It is in this biblical site that Elijah overcame the prophets of Ba’al (I Kings 18). After enjoying a spectacular view of the Jezreel Valley from the rooftop of the Church here, we will bike down the slope of the Carmel. We will pass several of the early kibbutzim along the way, and then ride through the Amikam region, known as the Tuscany of Israel. From here we will ride to Caesarea: Built in the first century BC by King Herod, we will bike along the aqueduct all the way to the ancient port. After lunch on your own in the Caesarea Harbor we will take a short walking tour of the city that was once the capitol of Judea, and is today a true gem on the coast. From here we will head by van to Nahariya where we will spend the night close the Mediterranean Coast. (D)

Day 2 - Monday
Northern Mediterranean Coast and the Western Galilee

We will ride out of Nahariya nestled on the northern Mediterranean Coast which we will follow until we get to the natural beauty of Rosh HaNikra on Israel’s northern border. From here we will traverse the Western Galilee biking through Ma’alot Tarshiha and ending the ride at Lake Montforte. Time permitting we will visit the grave of the famous 2nd Century sage, Rasbhi, before transferring to Tzfat.

Our afternoon will be spent touring the ancient city of Tzfat (Safed), the home of Jewish Mysticism and a modern art lover’s heaven. You will have an optional guided tour through the Old City and time to wander alone through the market street and artists’ quarter with its many galleries. Check in to hotel and enjoy dinner on your own in this special town. (B)

Day 3 - Tuesday
Eastern Galilee and the Hula Valley

Today’s ride will take us from the giddying heights of the Upper Galilee right down in to the Hula Valley. Biking out of Tzfat this morning our ride will take us to Baram where we will visit the ancient synagogue there. We will then join the northern border road to ride into the Finger of the Galil, stopping along the way for a wine tasting. We will follow this scenic route until we start the decent into the Hula Valley. Here we will circle the Hula Lakes spotting a vast number of birds and other wildlife in this natural watering hole on the bird migration routes. Transfer to Degania Bet on the southern end of the Sea of Galilee for check-in. Dinner on your own. (B, L)

Day 4 - Wednesday
The Sea of Galilee

Those wanting the long ride will bike right out of Degania Bet to start your route around the entire circumference of the Sea of Galilee. Passing through the city of Tiberius and on to the northern shore of the lake. At Magdala the whole group will meet for a tour of the ancient home of Mary Magdalene and one of the most recent archaeological gems in Israel. Together you will visit the Mount of Beatitudes, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount and continue to Capernaum. All riders will continue around the eastern side of the lake, stopping at Ein Gev for lunch on your own at the famous fish restaurant there. Having completed the ride to Degania Bet there will be an optional tour for those who wish to Nazareth where you will be taken on a walking tour and guided tour of the Church of the Annunciation. Return to the hotel for dinner. (B, D)

Day 5 - Thursday
Golan Heights

We will enjoy a day of biking around the Sea of Galilee, taking time to visit some of the historical sites along the way. The Sea of Galilee was the birthplace of early Christianity, and several sites around the lake mark important events in the life of Jesus. We will visit Capernaum, and visit the ruins of the town where Jesus began to preach. From there we will climb (or opt for a shuttle to cover the 6km) to the Mount of Beatitudes where a beautiful church overlooks the Sea of Galilee, marking the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount. After riding along the east shore of the lake we will arrive at Kibbutz Dgania. Kibbutz Dgania was the first kibbutz and was instrumental in the development of the kibbutz movement and the ideology of collective living. We will enjoy a light lunch and then return to Tiberius. (B)

Day 6 - Friday
Mt Gilboa to the Valley of Springs

This morning we drive to the foot of Mt Gilboa, overlooking the Jezreel Valley and the Jordan River. We will begin to climb up this quiet scenic road and enjoy the views of the whole of the Galilee (optional 10 km shuttle to the top). From here we will descend to the valley below and ride along the streams fed by natural spring water leading into the Jordan River. We will enter the Spring Valley Park and end our ride at the large pools in Gan Hashlosha National Park. We will enjoy a swim and a picnic in this beautiful corner of Israel and toast the end of our ride. From here there will be transportation to Jerusalem. Those doing the optional extension will check in to their hotel before departing for dinner independently. (B, L)

OPTIONAL EXTENSION – join us for more adventure!

We will take advantage of the Sabbath in Jerusalem, and ride through the city streets and allies. Our tour will include the Israeli Parliament, The Valley of the Cross, the pioneer neighborhood of Rehavia, The German Colony, and an overlook of the Old City. This trademark ride follows small streets, bike lanes, short cuts and hidden alleys unknown to most. For lunch we will stop at the Old City gates, and continue independently for a free afternoon which you may like to spend in the bizarre of the Old City or independently tour the Israel Museum or Tower of David Museum. Enjoy Dinner on your own in one of Jerusalem’s many fine restaurants. (B)

Day 8 - Sunday
Old Jerusalem

Our day today will focus on the Old City of Jerusalem, a world of its own, enclosed in walls and history. We will tour the 4 quarters of the city viewing the sites that are important to all of the 3 monotheistic religions that hold this city as holy including a visit to the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and a view of the Temple Mount. You will visit the famous Western Wall Tunnels that go along the walls of the ancient Second Temple under the Muslim Quarter, and you will walk through the famous Jerusalem Bizarre. After passing through the market you will be free to choose whether to return to your hotel to rest or explore Jerusalem on your own until we meet again in the evening after dinner on your own.

A little after dusk, we will leave for the breathtaking experience of a night ride within the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City. On mountain bikes we will revisit some of the sites we saw earlier today but under the cloak of darkness we are able to experience them in a totally new way. We will ride through the Jaffa Gate, and wind our way through the narrow stepped alleyways of the quarters. We will finish our tour close to the Jaffa Gate where we will enjoy a refreshing cold drink and a midnight snack. (B)

Day 9 - Monday
Judean Hills

We will start this morning with an optional ride out of Jerusalem towards Bar Giora in the beautiful pine forest surrounding Jerusalem and from there the whole group will continue onward to the Beit Shemesh area in the Judean Foothills. We will ride through the Adulam Park, where we will get a glimpse of the famous caves where Bar Kochva and his supporters hid from the Romans in the year 135 CE. Riding through Israel’s wine country will give us a taste to whet our pallets and we will enjoy a stop and a tasting at a local winery. We will eat lunch together before continuing to the ruins of Beit Guvrin where we can explore a labyrinth of ancient caves dating back over 2,000 years. The bus will take us back to our hotel in Jerusalem for farewells. (B, L)
