Ancient Roots, Living Spirit: An 8-Day Litvak Journey through the Heart of Lithuania

Suitable for Family, Group, Senior

OVERVIEW

Seniors and singles will find this accessible with confirmed kosher meals in Vilnius. Known as the “Jerusalem of the North,” it is the home of the Litvaks, supported by Gil Travel’s deep-dive genealogical resources.

This eight day Jewish tour of Lithuania offers a profound immersion into the heart of Litvak heritage travel, exploring a civilization that once served as the global epicenter of Torah study and intellectual brilliance. Designed for heritage travelers, families, and seniors, this journey invites you to join a comprehensive Vilnius Jewish tour, walking the cobblestone streets of the city long celebrated as the “Jerusalem of the North.” From the towering legacy explored in a dedicated Vilna Gaon tour to the modern-day efforts of a community reclaiming its future, this trip bridges the gap between a glorious past and a resilient present, offering a deeply personal connection to Jewish continuity.

The itinerary is meticulously crafted to balance historical reflection with the warmth of modern Jewish life. You will find a welcoming spiritual home at the Vilnius Choral Synagogue and the Chabad of Lithuania, where the traditions of the Litvaks are kept alive with daily minyanim and soulful melodies. Beyond the capital, the trip reaches the intellectual cradle of Kaunas Jewish heritage and the poignant memorial at Paneriai, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the tragedies and triumphs that have shaped this land. This is not merely a sightseeing tour; it is an invitation to stand where sages walked and to honor the spirit of a community that continues to be a light in the Baltics.

Your comfort and religious needs are a priority throughout the experience, with practical arrangements for kosher dining and a spirited Shabbat in the heart of Vilnius. You will share meals with local community members, hearing firsthand stories of survival and rebirth, while enjoying traditional Litvak heritage travel hospitality. Whether you are tracing your own ancestral roots in a rural shtetl during your Kaunas Jewish heritage segment or admiring the world-renowned Samuel Bak Museum, this 8-day journey provides the time and space needed to absorb the weight of history and the joy of a living heritage.

  • The Lost Shtetl Museum (Šeduva): Experience a world-class, modern commemorative complex that painstakingly recreates the life, culture, and atmosphere of a typical pre-war Jewish town.
